Crooked Face Creamery is an award-winning artisan cheesemaker and specialty food shop located inside the Maine Grains building at 42 Court Street in Skowhegan. Founded by cheesemaker Amy Rowbottom, the creamery produces small-batch cheeses by hand using whole milk from Jersey cows, locally sourced ingredients, and no preservatives.
The creamery is especially known for its rich ricotta and distinctive cold-smoked cheeses. Its Plain Whole Milk Ricotta received a prestigious Super Gold Award at the 2025–26 World Cheese Awards, placing it among the top 1 percent of more than 5,000 entries from around the world. Its Applewood Smoked Ricotta also earned a Bronze Award and was later ranked first on Food & Wine magazine’s list of essential American soft cheeses.
Visitors to the retail shop can browse Crooked Face Creamery’s fresh and aged cheeses, locally raised meats, gift boxes, preserves, crackers, pasta, and other Maine-made provisions. The shop also offers limited and experimental cheeses that may only be available in person. Products can also be purchased through the creamery’s online store.
